Brooders & Growers

We use multi-layer Petersime stack brooders for all of our chicks until they are approximately 6 weeks old.  Each brooder layer is thermally controlled so that chicks from a day old up to 6 weeks old are slowly acclimated to life in the real world.  The rule of thumb in brooding chicks is to reduce the brooder temperature by 5 degrees for each week of age, starting at 95 degrees for the first week.  These multi-layer brooders have wire floors which helps keep the chicks healthy because droppings fall through the wire to the catch pans below.  Also, the brooders have water and feed troughs on the outside of each layer.  The chicks are then moved to a Petersime grower unit which allows them to adjust to the larger seasonal temperature changes.
